MUSIC REVIEW: Caspar Babypants–This is Fun!

This is a cd I just dug out of my crate full o’music that I apparently never got around to listening to before…I probably received this for review years ago because I don’t even remember when! But it turns out that I actually really like it! It’s one of the few out of that huge stash of kids music submitted to me for review that I actually like!

Very catchy! I was bouncing along to “All You Pretty Babies” and literally laughing out to the silliness of the “The Legend of the Bone”…I can totally see families with babies through preschoolers really enjoying this cd! Maybe even some a little older than that, if they like fun kid music. It’s definitely aimed at a young crowd though.

Very clever songs, catchy tunes, cute lyrics, fun!! Well named album! 🙂  Go check it out! Click on the album cover image above and you can listen to samples of the songs on Amazon.

My kids may be grown, but I sometimes have friends with littles over and someday I’ll have grandbabies. I’m keeping this one!

MUSIC REVIEW: Hope Harris, Cousins Jamboree

I am happy to say that after many months of no new cds to recommend (after many submissions), I’ve finally got another great kids cd to share with y’all!

Let me tell ya, I get a LOT of cd submissions for review…and VERY FEW are what I would deem worthy of a recommend. Some are just awful, most are just eh. This one is very cute!

The music is catchy, just as you would expect a kids cd to be…But I would even say very well done (musically, instrumentally, etc). Very professional and fun! Hope’s singing is wonderful and fun, and the lyrics are cute and singable. I especially like her version of the Five Little Monkeys…I had not heard that set to actual music before, but had only sung it a capella in preschool circle times. CUTE! The “doom-wacka” parts will be particularly catchy to toddlers, I bet…I don’t currently have any more toddlers so I couldn’t say first hand. But my 6yr old does like this cd! 🙂  My 11yr old…..well…she’s 11…she prefers not to listen to “little kids music” anymore. 🙁   *sniff sniff*  This makes me so sad…but my little guy is still into this stuff with me, thank heavens!

If you have toddlers and preschoolers…and even young grade schoolers…I recommend giving this one a listen! You may just find yourself finding some new favorites among some old ones! 🙂

MUSIC REVIEW: Stevesongs–Marvelous Day

It's only fair to share...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on RedditShare on StumbleUponShare on TumblrEmail this to someone

As I write this I’m listening to this fabulous cd for the first time in awhile and I’m enjoying it like a kid! Seriously, when I’m having a less than stellar day, I can listen to the title song “Marvelous Day” and find my happy place and suddenly the day isn’t so gloomy looking anymore.

I am very particular about kids’ music, and I have had many many opportunities to compare, as I have been reviewing kid cds for my local parenting resource site for years (many many MANY which were sent to me for review that didn’t make it to the site because they were just awful).  I’m not exaggerating when I say that this is by far one of the BEST kids’ music albums I’ve ever heard.

Steve, besides being a cutey patootie:

(we see him on the interstitials in between PBS kids shows)
has a fabulous voice, cheery & likable personality, fantastic music with excruciatingly catchy beats and mood enhancing lyrics, the ability to write silly lyrics that really appeal to children (and children-at-heart, like me!) and he even throws in a wide variety of instruments into the mix that make the music feel robust and not dumbed down like so many albums for kids. Many of his songs are even educational, and they don’t sound contrived like many of the “educational” songs I’ve endured.

I cannot say enough about Steve Roslonek (aka “Mr. Steve” or “Stevesongs”). This guy knows kids!

I see on his website that he has 7 albums in total…guess I need to save up my money!

MUSIC REVIEW: Steve Weeks-Alphabet Songs Vol. 1

It's only fair to share...Share on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on RedditShare on StumbleUponShare on TumblrEmail this to someone

I recently received this one in the mail, sent to me by Steve to review. (I get a lot of children’s music cds free this way, but very few of them make it to my review list…I’m really picky, lol!) OH MY GOSH!!! This cd is FANTASTIC!! Steve is SOOOO creative with his songs…most of which are story-songs with a fantastic repeating chorus that encourages kiddos to join in. He uses alliteration in each song, helping to enforce the letter of the song. My husband even loves some of the songs on this cd, and he usually hates kid music, lol! Another thing I like about this cd is that each song is so very very different! There is so much variety in this cd and the songs are so catchy, I find myself singing the choruses even when they are not on…caught my husband singing “Fred the Fish” chorus to my daughter the other day…a big thing if you knew my husband! 🙂 An additional benefit to these songs it that I think when my daughter is a little older, this might also help her learn the sounds of the letters! Anyway, I can’t wait to hear the rest of this series! Hope he publishes more soon!
