Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World, by Rachel Ignotofsky

This is an awesome book! My daughter got this as a gift on her 16th birthday from a family member and we are in love with it! It is a collection of short stories about female scientists…most of whom we’ve never heard of! Each one has only one page about them, but the info is very interesting and we really like the quirky pictures! There’s also little snippets of info around the page and the pictures, making the pages very easy reads. Great way to get a lot of great info about great women!

There’s all sorts of fascinating women in here from ancient times all the way up through modern times, including some women still living! The book also includes an interesting timeline showing some milestones women made throughout history, and a “More Women in Science” section at the end which mentions even more women that we can look up and learn more about! There’s also a decent glossary and the sources section includes films, websites and books that look like they could be very useful in pursuing more info on the women in this book.

While this book doesn’t go into great detail on any one woman…it gives a good overview of who they were and how they contributed, and I think gives you a really good idea on the women that you may want to pursue reading up more on! Plus it gives a fantastic overview of how women have done so very many amazing things…and didn’t always get recognition! I mean, really, how many of these women have YOU heard of??

Great resource book!! I highly recommend for every homeschool library! Every child, both girl AND boy, should read about the contributions these women made to science throughout history!
