The Rainbow Bridge, by Audrey Wood
This week I read an old favorite of mine to my kids.
This book is an adapted version of the creation story of the Chumash tribe (Native American) of the Central Coast of CA. The story is beautiful, the images are gorgeous….I love reading this story aloud.
It tells the story of the creation of the Chumash people by the goddess Hutash. When her island become overpopulated, she creates a rainbow bridge for half the people to travel over to live on the mainland…the legend shares some enchanting Chumash folklore and is beautifully pictured.
I can just imagine this story being told animatedly by a storyteller around a fire in days gone by…
