Tyr was scratching my back on Mother’s Day and Adam wanted a back scratch too, so he told Maeven to go scratch his back…his reaction: “No! She has no fingernails! That’d be like rubbing 5 hot dogs on my back!”
Having a discussion about survival of the fittest with Adam and Tyren..I mentioned maybe some deer had longer necks and were able to survive because they could reach more food… Then the conversation evolved into silly speculations, ending in Adam saying: “What if the original inventor of the forklift was really shortnecked deers, and humans stole the invention.” Um, whaaaat? […]
I was just doing some thoughts on family while showering. I do a lot of thinking in the shower. Some families are not close. I know families that spend time together, but don’t necessarily know each other or even really enjoy each other’s company. They might have awkward or toxic relationships or they might just do get togethers because it’s […]
I just walked into the bedroom to my husband demonstrating to my 10yr old how 2 min isn’t very long in a very unique way… Timer set on his iPhone, wacking son with pillows, tons of giggles from my son. My husband’s parenting is never a dull moment, I tell ya.
Tyr and Adam were arguing about possession of his chocolate bunny (it’s Easter)…Adam was trying to convince him the Easter Bunny left a note saying the chocolate bunny was for his dad…Tyr wasn’t buying it and telling him why…ending with: Tyr: “And ALSO…” (Grabs his bunny and licks it a bunch) “I licked it.” Me: (cracking up) Adam: “Uh, ok, […]
I’m having an odd sense of deja vu. I’m feeling like I’ve lived this scenario before…But it damn well better be different this time around. And luckily, I am pretty sure it is.So we’re reviving The Learning Village. Remember my homeschool resource center? That failed project of mine from several years ago? Let’s see, it was 2009 to about 2011 […]
Seriously. I don’t like this feeling. I rarely feel like this, and I imagine it’s brought on by that time of the month, so it should be temporary. But I just do not do well with this icky feeling. I am starting to really get an idea how hard it must be to be someone who deals with these emotions […]
Maeven was being goofy, pretending to be stuck under Tyr’s mattress on the floor…saying “HEEEEELP….Mom, help!” I was texting a friend and ignoring her temporarily…knowing she wasn’t actually stuck…so Maeven says: “Heeeeelp….Mom, heeeeeeeelp. You’renotaverygoodparent” (as a sort of aside)…then…”Heeeeeeeeelp”. Lol. Dork. I’m surrounded by dorks.
I love that I finally seem to have developed the ability to lecture my 14yr old daughter about life lessons in a way that is goofy and fun, and very UNlecture-y. Just had a long conversation with her about the importance of routine….something I’ve struggled with for YEARS. At least since I became a mom…I was much better about it […]
This week the temp FINALLY took a nose dive and it started feeling less like summer, more like fall. Well, Fresno fall, which isn’t crisp like it was in NJ…just not HOT, like it’s been since May. Yet, I’m feeling really overwhelmed with all that I need to do, and all that is going on, that it’s been difficult to […]
Today was a complete wash in some ways and very productive in others. I was planning to do some more house cleaning and purging, as I’ve been doing all summer, but got totally sidetracked. I finally pinned my kids down and asked them what time period they’d like to start with this coming school year. I pulled out our Usborne […]
Maeven, looking at the hills, covered in dead CA native grasses, sprinkled with little bushy trees: “Everything looks like broccoli!” ———————– This hay truck drove past and Adam said “Hey!!” Took me a sec and I got it and burst into giggles. I’m easily amused. ——————- While talking about the alphabet game, where you look for the letters of the […]
After I told Adam I wasn’t going to go check to see if the drier was empty for him, that he could do it himself, because I was in the middle of something (He’s ALWAYS trying to get me to do things for him, and feigns hurt or anger when I won’t.)…. “Sometimes when people are being mean to other […]
I’ve been feeling really good lately. Not sure entirely why, except I’ve relaxed about a lot of things. I am doing a more relaxed homeschooling, I’m trying to stay on top of my life responsibilities but at the same time do it in a more relaxed manner (vs running around like a maniac, feeling stressed out all the time), and […]
I agree wholeheartedly with this article. Just saw it in a friend’s feed on Facebook, and it got me thinking, again, about how ridiculous we’ve gotten about college nowadays. College education used to be the end all and be all. It’s not anymore. Says the college graduate. 🙂 But I did it without spending my life chained to student loans. […]
I don’t enjoy Xmas. I really don’t. It saddens me because it was such an important time of year for me years ago. During my single days, pre-children, when there were only 3 people in the world I had to think about for gifts. And nothing else to do but decorate a tiny apartment and only one place to go […]
Overheard in my kitchen, conversation between my 12.5yr old and her dear friend Brooke…. Brooke: How’d you remember that?Maeven: Uh, my brain.Brooke: Oh cool! How’d you do that? I want one of those!Maeven: I know! They’re cool!! preteen giggles all around, plus some Mommy giggles, truth be toldMaeven: They’re half off at Walmart!!
Just tickled pink right now! I turned the tv on a little while ago, thinking that the kids hardly ever get to see some of the morning shows on PBS because we just haven’t been turning the tv on lately except in the afternoon when their favorite shows are on. Frankly, I’VE missed Curious George! Lol! So I just looked […]
Background: I just had a nasty stomach bug yesterday, and my kids seem to be following suit… Maeven just now up-chucked in the sink after eating chicken noodle soup, and after cleaning out the sink, Adam asked Maeven: “I saved most of the noodles, Maeven, do you want them?” Yep, that’s my hubby, always the comedian.
Laying in bed, sick with a cold, listening to Pandora on my phone. I plugged in Kenny Loggins, one of my favorites, and it started with his heart wrenching, but oh-so-lovely “Forever”…not a song that reminds me of anything in particular but feels like it must to many. It’s such a strong song. Started me thinking about how songs often […]
